The Age of Reason
The enlightenment also known as the age of reason the enlightenment occurred during the mid to sixteenth century up to the end of the seventeenth century, a time when the human ability to reason was glorified. The word Enlightenment means a time of illumination. This era was given this name because it was a time when scholars, writers, artist, and scientist sought out to use the clear light of reason that is rational thought to rid the world of superstition and ignorance. Bold ideas were developed throughout this time. The fathers of enlightenment were Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes. Bacon believed science could free ordinary people from ignorance. Bacon promoted Experimentation, Generalization, and observation. Descarte invented Analytic Geometry. The ideas of Bacon and Descartes created the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton had a great impact in the enlightenment as well created calculus he formulated the laws of motion and of gravity. The age of reason was an important period in our civilization that brought many new ideas that we know in our world that we know today. |

Political Satire of Today
Here is a piece of satire in the form of a political cartoon by a medical student from Philadelphia. This cartoon involves the logic behind how when considering a murder case of a woman who is three months pregnant how many people have been killed the man answers two but when told that the woman was having an abortion and then asked again how many people were killed he answers two. The three main devices used to convey the meaning of this cartoon were allegory, analogy, and antithesis. Allegory because it is an idea being used a an example. An analogy is establishing a relationship based on similarities between two concepts or ideas which ties into the question he is asking the man. And an antithesis because it is contrasting the same question that has two different answers. In all the idea being depicted through this cartoon is how can our justice system see a case on a man who murdered a woman who was three months pregnant be put to trial for killing two people but if the woman was having an abortion the number of people being killed turns to one. The writer thus has created this cartoon in efforts to make those who find abortion acceptable rethink what exactly they are trying to make society accept as a choice to do to their own bodies, in my opinion what they are trying to do to the human inside of them. |

We plan to create a slideshow that explains how being obese sounds better than being healthy in society today. There is an epidemic going around the country either you're overweight or obese. Who would want a $6.00 salad when you can have 99 cent burger. How about a dollar coke but if you want water that will be $1.50. Oh your trying to portion your meals and eat more greens but you flip the channel on the TV and you see fast food industry trying to sell you nuggets not even made wth real chicken. Our country is saying we are over weight but prices and adds aren't helping much. Our slide show aims to satirize how our country is overweight and the fast food industry isn't helping. We use sarcastic as the tone for our video we use this sarcasm in order to ridicule the the fact that were being told get healthy but the fast food industry is saying come on were cheaper than eating a salad or making a real meal at home. We will exaggerate in this animated video by actually making “obesity” look good and being healthy look expensive, and hard to keep up with . We also make fun of healthier people by saying that the obese people stay warmer, look better and love life. Are video aim to show how society says one thing but promotes another. Being Obese sounds better than being healthy, is the satirical idea.
